ViequesLove was founded to provide disaster relief to Vieques after the devastation of Hurricane Maria and has since applied lessons learned to enhance the island’s resilience and sustainability. Today, the organization serves as a leading advocate, representing Vieques in disaster preparedness efforts, funding training for first responders and healthcare workers, connecting resource providers, and advising on sustainable energy projects.
Working for a more resilient future for Vieques
Vieques faces unique challenges as a small, remote island, including limited access to critical resources and services during emergencies. The lack of disaster preparedness infrastructure, insufficient training for first responders, and limited community education leave the island vulnerable to crises like hurricanes and other natural disasters. This program addresses these gaps by building local capacity for resilience, enhancing preparedness, advocating for necessary resources, and providing education to empower the community to respond effectively to emergencies.
ViequesLove is uniquely positioned to address these issues because of its deep-rooted connection to the community and its proven track record in disaster response, the pandemic and as solar ambassadors/ the organization has spent the past six years building relationships with local residents, first responders, and gov. and non gov. partners . ViequesLove combines firsthand knowledge of the island’s challenges with a strong network of resources and confidence of the island residents, making it a trusted leader in advocating for preparedness, resilience, and sustainable development specific to Vieques needs.
Your support will strengthen our efforts to advocate for sustainable energy solutions and build resilience against future emergencies, while also providing life-saving training for our community. On an island with limited healthcare resources, advanced training for healthcare providers, first responders, and paramedics is essential yet often inaccessible without our help. In addition we would like to utilize the professionals providing the training to also facilitate first aid and disaster response courses in the middle and high school.
ViequesLove is committed to matching up to $3,500 to fund ACLS and PALS training for 20 professionals. Join us in making a critical impact.
